Toxic

Toxic

A Poem by Jess K

When we lose sleep, do we submit to defeat?

Give me wings to fly and hear my battle cry.

What is in your mind that you are so blind?

World, I cry out, do you hear my shout?

My belief is strong, it has been calling for so long.

Take a deep breath.

What toxins linger there, in the air?

Will the world look away, in subtle sway.

It starts with one who wants to change the earth.

Such great need to make new worth.

Very good poem. I am a fan of the internal rhymes, it really helps with the flow of the poem. I do believe the poem could be more vivid and pain more of picture to add emphasis to the meaning. The rhyme and flow is fine, but it lacks imagery which might be more important in poetry than prose. Very good poem.

I really love the rhyming. It gives so much more meaning to the poem. One of the best!

I'm assuming your poem is about wanting to change the way you live, and that the world does not care. Well that's the way I interpret it and feel at the moment.
