The Boy's Sun

The Boy's Sun

A Story by K.M

When he looks up, all the stars hold their breath. Then they begin to whisper “Here comes the boy that stole a piece of the sun.” The youngest star began to ask “Why did he steal a piece of the sun?” The older stars tell him the story. “The boy was born kind, he had always known more than his comrades did. Soon his comrades changed. They changed into ravens, and flew away. The boy wanted to change too, he wanted to be just like his comrades. He wanted to fly away. But he could not… So he was only left with a few feathers and a sad, lonely, broken heart. The sun had witnessed the whole thing, and came down from the heavens to confront the boy about his comrades. ‘Why did your comrades change so they could fly away?’ And the boy said ‘My comrades flew away because they were envious of my strengths, they felt belittled by my knowledge, and they were jealous of my light.’ The sun looked confused, but only for a moment. Then he asked ‘Well my boy, how did you get your light?’ The boy let out a small laugh then began to say ‘I knew the truth.’ The boy continued. ‘My comrades were told lies the moment they were born. I was told the truth, and that is why I was born kind. But my comrades on the other hand… They were born confused. Confusion is darkness, which is the reason why their hearts turned black. And that is why they turned into ravens. And that is why they flew away. They were so done with the lies, they were sick and tired of them. This is why they got away.’ ‘Ahhh I see…’ said the sun. ‘But why did you not feed them the truth? If they were so hungry for it, then why did you not feed them?’ The boy shuffled his feet for a moment then stood upright, and began to explain. ‘How can you show a mole light if it only knows darkness? How could I teach my comrades the truth if they only knew lies? This, sun, is why I could not feed them. My comrades were just too full of lies, I couldn’t even feed them a teaspoon of truth.’ ‘I understand now boy’ said the sun. ‘You boy have enlightened the light of the world. And because of this I shall give you some of my light.’” The stars ended the story. Then said “So that’s how the boy stole the sun.” The youngest star did not believe this at all. So he asked the older stars a question. “How did the boy steal the sun if it was given to him by the sun himself?” The older stars then replied “The truth was never given to him.”
