Idea of LifeA Poem by kenwillpanalogy ofWilliams1 Kenneth Williams 08-22-10 Idea of Life An idea can be formed about life and just as easily be the form of life. Jesus Christ told the people that he was the son of God and the word of God " the truth, the life, and the way. He said that he was the “bread of life” come down from heaven. What a concept and what a life. Jesus said that if you eat this bread you will never die but inherit eternal life. He said that if you drink this cup of water, you will never thirst again. To a great many people in the world, the personality of Jesus Christ forms the very meaning of their whole existence, and so they call themselves Christians. They rally under the banner of Christianity. They are Disciples of Christ Jesus. And in their life and being they live to personify the idea and image of their Master. An idea, in its essence, can be any revelation of thought, whether right, wrong, indifferent, or of another persuasion than my own. Ideas are cognitions that give birth and life to concepts that are defined or undefined. Ideas are as diverse as life; they can be good, bad, mad, sad, simple, complex, rational, irrational, compliant, non-compliant, attractive, or unattractive. Astonishingly, ideas also display the ability to have intercourse and thus procreate. Williams2 Wherever, ideas join to consummate in matrimonial attachment of their intellectual property and their emotional sensitivity, a new strand of “Idea-DNA” is derived. And, that which has been given birth to is a unique, synthesized, yet autonomous concept. As we know most of the time ideas embody the superlative character of both these mental aspects of our human nature and they also exemplify both ends of its spectrum -- the best and the worst. Therefore as in life there are all manner of personalities, so too are our ideas in their diversity. The insemination of referenced and/or inferred idea with brand new perception and insight entails a natural order of procreation within ideas also. Ideas are like snowflakes none are identical, yet they are very similar in shape and form, and so easily mistaken. But old ideas die in body, yet they live on in spirit " as with we human -- within the body and life of their seed which hopefully, produces even better seed than itself. This is the nature of all life forms: to live on in their progeny. Let us take for example biological life, spiritual life, and now in these days even technological life " computers and robotics seem to imitate life. An idea gave birth to them first, conceptions moved their progress, perceptions first saw their vision, and now reality has set their place. These life-forms, each one, is more clearly seen and understood in the reality of our lives. We are truly growing in our nature and in our spirit; thusly, we reflect the nature and the spirit of God, the Maker and Creator of all manner of life, and possibilities. Unfortunately though, our ideas may suffer the disease of misinterpretation and misrepresentation which amounts to deformity. Still, every Idea is given equal validation and representation in principle; therefore, ideas are never weighted in any liability to those that Williams3 abuse truth. Nevertheless, great harm often results. And so, as one of man’s greatest ideas states, “the truth will set you free,” and another proclaims “to thine own self be true,” in these ought our lives and our ideas in life abided. So although, ideas can come from providence, a higher power, something greater than self, yet those higher principles are very rarely exemplified, even in in my own character. An idea with emotional deformity, I know this may sounds like a very irrational statement, for we know that ideas are not sentient: they do not feel but only reflect our affections. They are but human thought, perceptions, concepts, and conclusions, right? A deformed idea - that sounds “out of this world.” Yet I do not have to go that far to see one, all I need is a mirror, for there an emotionally deformed idea will look back at me. Sometimes I am my harshest critic. I know first-hand that there is nothing more frightening than or as dangerous as inordinate ideas, ill-conceived perceptions, perverted conceptions, and evil thoughts which can form only in the realm of the human mind and heart. And that is how we humans and our ideas get their bad names and reputations. Yet a good person and a good idea cannot be kept hidden. In fact, our ideas can begin wherever, start whenever, and be whatever since they are always readily found and easily formed. Ideas are the most pliable substances, the most valuable tools, the most helpful assistant, and there always seems to be an idea to suit the occasion, whether the suit be in a court of law, on a man or a woman, or on an astronaut walking in outer-space. And while our highest gift is life, within the gift is the benediction called ideas. Albeit, and however, ideas are eternal and our life is but finite, yet it is filled with infinite possibilities even in one day of our life of ideas. Williams4 Intuitively, ideas give us power to create the aspects of our life’s perceptions and conceptions, our life’s intentions, and our life’s successes and failings. It is idea that “kicks us in the butt,” and it is the idea that comes forth and conceives in us that which was once unbeknownst to us. And ideas deliver physical, mental, and spiritual energy that allows us, makes us, convinces us, and commits us to think and then think more thoughtfully, to reason and then reason more soundly, to build and then rebuild more specifically, to design and then redesign more intricately; ideas guide us to open doors once closed, and close doors once opened, to heal that which had been harmed, and ideas attack and defend us from the diseases that once represented the darkness and the nightmare, having no cure. But our ideas shone light upon darkness where we once had no sight. Also, unequivocally providential, the idea stays us - that we listen and heed the “still small voice” inside our soul - our heart and mind. Yet, it is the idea that tells us to stand up, be heard, and to make the undesirable suggestion, query the unanswered question, or oppose the impossibility of it defiance. You can bet it was the idea’s wanton fantasy and desire to stir life’s hornet nest of stinging impossibilities, feeling and examining every zap of stimulus for the new concept, while loving every unfamiliar sting. “What an awesome form of life … hmm … the body, the shape, the energy, and the presence in nature of these entities. What fabulous objects and subjects they make. Oh! The things I can make them to make of themselves,” that Idea speaks to Life, even as it lives and breathes in me. Idea’s grandest imagination is a gift saved for the sublimity of our sub conscious moments: the daydream " short, acute, and punctual; the nap " sudden, intermittent, and Williams5 fickle; the night’s sleep " long, chronic and drawn out; prayer " timeless, subliminal, and eternal. The vast, open, and uninhibited state of sub consciousness is the idea’s sovereign dominion. Perception and conception find themselves freed from the bondage of the self’s egotism; thus, being at liberty and unlimited, they can even imagine and see the impossible impossibility’s sensitivity to reality - faith. The progression of an idea is like the progressive stages of the alcoholic caught in the grips of his alcoholism. However, the idea is progressively life-giving, whereas alcoholism is progressively fatal. And, sometimes, like the alcoholic and his alcoholism " or any other addiction to self and/or chemical substances such as marijuana, prescription medication, sex, work, gambling, and food " the idea can manifest slowly or quickly. Either can take hold of us and become ingrained in our mind and then we do according to its principles. An inordinate idea of self can be the source of the most obsessive thoughts, which fuels compulsive acts. At times, it can hardly be dismissed without first being looked at honestly, accepted, addressed, and then if necessary corrected. An idea is in the process of maturing when we see a child, either rich or poor, black or white, short or fat, able or disable, whether in Canada, Africa, Fiji, or New Zealand begins to practice basketball, baseball, football, volleyball, soccer, tennis, golf, or perhaps they enjoy the piano, violin, chess, they may love reading, writing, spelling, math, science, drawing, or painting practicing hour after hour, day after day, year after year. They see an idea and they are bringing an idea in life to fruition. They may feel in their heart and see in their mind an idea: Michael Jordan, Don Mattingly, Brett Favre, Flo Hyman, Diego Maradona, Venus Williams, or Greg Williams6 Norman, or Beethoven, Isaac Stern, Bobby Fischer, Albert Einstein, John Lennon, Vincent Van Gogh, perhaps born within them is the concept that animated Michelangelo’s masterful work of art - the Sistine Chapel. However, it is one and the same idea that drives us all, sustains our effort and fortifies our determination. It is not solely or wholly just the personage or even the accomplishment of another, but it is an ideal concept in the mind and heart personifying in and motivating in someone’s being and their doing. An idea conceived, perceived, and now living in the breath, heart-beat, and soul of the child, or whomever wished or longed to be or do or go on to a perfection set by their idea of self. And the idea becomes a base for self-worth, an idea based in the quality of work which will guarantee success. They have taken hold of faith and obedience and have grasped the courage to believe the Divine paradox: seeing and possessing - now - that which is as yet physically seen or beheld, only hoped for in willingness and trust in the idea’s beauty alone. © 2010 kenwillp |
