God, and man is for saleA Poem by kenwillpI so love the world: that I might live richly; forever?
What
is man that you are mindful of Him? Nothing? What is God that man is mindful of
God? Everything? Nothing because of everything seems plausible (what is extinction?),
but everything because of nothing seems irrational (what is being?). Extinction
is possible: it is fact. Not being is impossible: I am. Not being can in no
wise come before extinction (what is reality?). It is impossible that
extinction should first precede being, or not being (what is nothing?). Nothing
can exist outside of everything, but the reverse cannot be true. Thus the
accepted philosophy: “I think therefore I am.” What then am I? What then should
I think to answer? What have I discerned of life and myself? That I am nothing
or that I am everything. “That I am but, as the poet said, ‘All … seen or
unseen … a dream within a dream"’” that these things cannot be proven. Therefore,
including God, I shall sale everything of Life: myself and my soul, my being
and my “ever-having-been,” my love and my fear, even right and wrong, good and
evil, sense and nonsense; bargaining away all that I have concerning the lie or
the truth for a mere morsel of bread? It is a good thing that nothing (man)
cannot miss what it never had? So, of vanity [man] is it said: “What do I want?”
Sovereignty [God] reproves and reiterates, “How about … some soapy water in a
cleaning bucket that you might keep washed and white the walls of your sepulcher.
Hypocrites refrain, “O’ Yeah! And some of those pretty flowers (lies?) to adorn
it.”
