He Who Is Free

He Who Is Free

A Poem by Kenny N
"

Just a quick blurb for a Thursday

"
Deep in the halls, somewhere between walls, is a man whose name is not known.
He sits there all day with nothing to say, for this man sits here alone.

Slowly his body is turning to dust,
and his mind is losing its trust.

As his body grows old, his spirit grows bold and he begins to plot his escape.
He rises with pride, but his heart starts to chide, so he pounds on his chest like an ape.

It is now that he leaves, as he pulls and he heaves, the bars begin to give way.
His mind is at ease, as himself he frees, and begins to move on from today.
His future he'll chase, and the minutes he'll race, without any further delay.

You may be writing directly about an imprisoned man, but metaphorically this speaks of an ache for freedom, adventure, the barriers and constraints of everyday mediocre life to be loosed and the freedom to just roam, explore and suck the marrow out of life as Thoreau would say. I feel the longing and yearning bleed through and it's stunning in its passionate vitality!
