The Fires

The Fires

A Poem by Kenny N

You’ll tell me it’s not worth it. That I should leave you be.

But dear my heart is here, and leaving? Well that’s not me.

You think you’re a disaster; that you’ll only drag me down.

Yet I’m the raft you reach for; and I’ll never let you drown.

You’ll do battle with your demons, and many monsters too.

No, you’ll never fight alone; I’ll fight alongside of you.

Like a sword and shield, your foes we'll vanquish.

For I cannot stand to see your anguish.

I feel you slipping, you’re letting go.

I pull and pull, but you still say no.

You run away, slipping and sliding.

But in my heart, you’re still residing.

You push me out, I clamor back.

It’s often hard to stay on track.

I run to you and I find a wall.

I climb and I climb and I sometimes fall.

As I make my way into your mind

To any dangers I am blind.

I see your heart and I feel it to.

Right here and now, it’s me and you.

As life goes on and this world keeps turning.

You’re trapped and you're torn, and I see you burning.

But your name tastes sweetly of my desires.

So for you my dear, I’ll fight the fires.
