Storms In Her Eyes

Storms In Her Eyes

A Poem by Kenny N

There is a powerful storm brewing. One that is deep in the distance of her eyes. Those eyes are the windows to her very soul and I watch as the storms build, sensing the danger as they do. And suddenly, the wind howls and I see those windows shatter. In come the rain and the debris. In comes the whirlwind that sweeps her off to a place so far from me. As the storm rages on, I pull on my boots and my coat and wade out into the floodwaters. Terrified of the storm, I take a breath and march on, hoping to find even a single ray of sun. Desperately I search, I call out her name, I shout for her, trying to pull her back in. The wind whips at my coat and my boots become heavy as they fill with water. I’m losing hope…I’m losing her. My coat is torn to shreds, my legs grow weary and I begin to fail. Just when I am losing all hope, giving in to the power of the storm, something amazing happens. I hear her voice faintly in the distance and I remember why I came into this storm. I remember that I took on this storm headfirst for her. My strength surges and I am able to reach out to her. As she grabs onto me, I pull her in close and the storm subsides. The rain begins to dry up, the floodwaters drain, and the wind ceases to blow. Slowly, gingerly I pick up the shards of these shattered windows and begin to reconstruct. When I am finished I step back, and admire these brand new windows. What was once a solid sheet of glass is now a patchwork of pasts and presents. These eyes are like stained glass, shattered and rebuilt time and time again, slowly taking the shape of a masterpiece. What was once disaster is now indescribable beauty. These shards, the battered remnants of times gone by are now the windows to her soul. They are the present, forged by the past, and they grow in beauty with time.
