Cubicle be damned.

Cubicle be damned.

A Story by Kenny N
"

I asked some friends to send a random, favorite word. This one was "wanderlust".

"
In this little room, with its padded walls and carpet floors, I slowly lose my mind.
I take a breath and begin to think. Why is this space so small when "space" implies so big? I don't want to be a slave to this space. I want something bigger. Something new.
I don't need extravagance, nor do I need grandeur; I need only to be free.
As these walls close in, my mind breaks out.

I knock down these walls one by one, and stand in revelation among the rubble.
And then it hits me. I'm a wayfaring soul imprisoned in this 9 to 5 body.
These walls are my own, painstakingly built over the years of my existence.
A sum of my choices, of the path the world told me to take.
This life, led by the map of many, is not my own and I do not enjoy this trip.
But today marks the end. I shatter these walls and free my soul to take its space.
And thus I am off. Off to conquer this world and my soul.
To appease my wanderlust.

Oh, I loved this so much! I have to admit, the title drew me in instantly, screaming, "read me! I will speak to you and humorously!" So much like Office Space but loads more brilliant and poetic. I just love your metaphors of those cubicle walls coming down like the walls of your mind break free.. I too am chained to an office job while my daydreaming and creativity yearn to be free.. This is fantastic writing!
