Maybe

Why do all the best poems seem to be sad ones

All about loneliness or emptiness

Sadness, grief, pain, depression.

Maybe it’s because we want a peek

Into the lives of others

Into what hurts them the most

But maybe that’s not it

Maybe because the rest of us

Have so much happiness

That we want to understand

The rest of those feelings

Or maybe it’s because

We all have those same

Exact feelings and

We want to be understood

By someone or we want to be accepted

Or maybe it’s because it is so common that

We just want a sense of community

And don’t want to be left alone
