A Chapter by Kelsey Desmond

"One iced tea and one regular coffee," Enrique said.
Or was it Enrique? I was hearing his voice everywhere lately. I don't know why. I love Matthew and he loved me and that was just the way it was. And anyways, Enrique was taken. And I barely knew him.
"Of course."
"Thanks."
"Was that the last customer?" asked Matthew.
I looked around. "Yeah. Looks like it."
I leaned my head against his chest. I groaned.
"Really? Today was really that bad?"
"No." I kissed him on the cheek, trying to forget all thoughts of Enrique. "Of course not." I slowly moved toward the lips with several kisses everywhere and anywhere I could find.
"Having a little fun? Isn't that against the rules?" asked a voice behind us.
We quickly tried to straighten ourselves up and look as professional as possible.
"Hazel?"
"Yeah! Who else would it be?" Hazel laughed.
I look to the familiar face next to her.
"Oh, and you brought Enrique," I said with another groan.
"Yeah," Enrique replied. He and Hazel held each other by the arms. "That alright?"
"Yeah, that's perfectly fine. What can I get for you?"
"What can we get for you?" Matthew corrected.
"Oh, man." Hazel sounded guilty. "Were you two about to close it? Damn! I'm so sorry to bother you."
"No it's fine. I can brew you up one last cup before we finish up," Matthew replied.
"Oh, thank God! I'm so thirsty! You got any smoothies here?"
"Oh, you don't drink coffee? That's fine. Yeah but not many. Here's a menu of all the non-coffee drinks." Matthew handed here a crinkled sheet of paper. "Sorry that it's not perfectly straight or anything. There new and we haven't had time to put them on the menu yet."
"Oh, it's totally fine. What do you want, baby?" Hazel asked Enrique.
"What ever you want!"
They both giggled a bit while they stayed staring at each other. The romance made me sick, and a tear almost fell out.
"I gotta go," I said. "I'll see you at the apartment Matt."
"Good with me, honey. I'll just close up shop." I headed to the door.
"What's with her?" Hazel asked.
"Nothing. She's just a little sick."
"Oh, okay. Then we won't waste anymore of your time." And they proceeded with their order.
Outside I stared at the car that was parked in one of the only employee parking spaces and again at the keys clinking in my unsteady hand.
Rain was starting to fall on my already tear filled cheek, and the keys dropped to the ground.
"Megan!" screamed Matt behind me. "Megan!" He pierced threw the falling rain.
I ran. I ran as fast as I could. Past all the houses and all the trees and all the things that reminded of anything at all. I tired myself out, but I stilled couldn't get myself to stop running. I ran until I didn't know where I was or anything around me. I ran until it stopped raining. Then I stopped and sat on a random bench. I looked around. I didn't know anything. But that just made me cry more.
"What have I done?"
