House of Cards

House of Cards

A Poem by Kelsey Mclaren

The house of cards crumbles before us.

The imaginary dream shatters before us.

The idea of love and forever and belonging drowns beneath us and becomes the wild sea that no amount of hope and embrace can tame.

“I’ll love you forever.''

I’m bound to you like a curse and I’ll burn to ashes.

Let me be dead to you or the only savior you’d trust with your cracked heart.

Thy love, mend it to my love and combine the sweet with the sour,

for true love can never exist as one when two souls intertwine.

Take me as I take you.

Flaws, shame and monsters crawling beneath your skin.

Take me as I take you.

Rain, storm and sea.

Take me as I take you.

Love, sun, never faltering forever to bind us into the thread that only death can tear apart.

Take my life as I take yours.

Failure, misfortune and those small glimmering moments of pure happiness to paint our stained and dishonorable souls that seek the peace that only death can bring.
