The tip of the icebergA Poem by Kelsey Mclaren''I can't fake another smile, I can't fake like I'm alright And I won't say I'm feeling fine, After what I been through, I can't lie''You’ll never really know me, never truly Because you’ll never meet the demons face to face And I’ll never get a true moment of peace For all I know is a call in the distant, an alarm wavering and calling for the thunder to come rolling in Crashing everything in its way Sadly people never look beyond beautiful eyes and normal conversations They’ll never see the medicine behind the cabinet or the sleepless nights or the thousand broken memories with people who taught you to stay away For your pain will never be visible and they’ll sadly never ask You’re not taught like that and you might spend your entire loving everyone else but yourself They’ll never question if you’ve felt rope around your neck or if you know what’s it’s like to be starved from touch and love Your scars are not visible and they’ll never ask Because maybe once you called and they didn’t pick up and you learned it all on your own Your pain is your baggage Your blood is yours and nobody want to see the poor sight of you bleeding out on a bathroom floor They’ll never see the litres of tears that you’ve cried and all the time spent behind closed doors Or ever come to understand how many times you’ve imagined yourself in another world, In a world where you could be safe, In a place where you could be happy, They’ll never sadly understand that behind the facade was someone, a soul barely hanging on, a little girl on the rope begging God for a second chance at life, They’ll sadly never see that a whole mountain was swimming down under © 2021 Kelsey Mclaren |
