PaintedA Poem by KellySmooth as glass As the façades we don As anything you think I thought As each and every mirrored wall Me smiling back at you
Heels that click Eyelashes shine The colors of our souls entwine Tentatively As if not sure If they are still okay Anymore
Plain as paper Not dared to think Another way I’m seen Next to you And all the Painted Girls I’m somewhere Back behind Through the eyes of another
And I watch And I wonder And I paint Another face Indistinct It can’t be harmed Because you never really mattered Unless I do too
The starting line The tip of the bow When the strand of music sweeps the air Afraid to be the first to fall Forever here, unsure Locked in a dance Of hidden souls Painted, hidden, aching souls
And each day They seem so sure But still I can’t help but realize
