If This is Goodbye

If This is Goodbye

A Poem by Kelly

I want to leave a memory

Like a footprint in the sand

I want my light to shine on

Like a beacon across the land

Something unforgettable

Before my time is through

To leave the world a better place

Leave a world I never knew

Tears are overrated

Don’t waste them all on me

I want my life to bring a smile

A happy memory

Of all the things I thought I’d see

Of all I thought I’d do

Looking back, I’d have to say

The best was knowing you

A heart stuffed full of memories

From laughter down to tears

To you right here beside me

What chased away my fears

I want to leave a memory

A smile, an outstretched hand

However small the change may be

I hope my love withstands

This speaks to me of the will to do good, for legacy and for the world, the purity of the entire piece was very clean, fresh and summarized, what so many of us feel and want in our lives and even as writers. A metaphysical poem of the heart, thanks for sharing it!
