Silence

Silence

A Poem by Kelly
"

so we're learning about the holocaust in school...

"
Suffocating
Dark, and cold, and suffocating
Overwhelming
It fills my mouth, fills the air, fills my ears
Fills our lives
If this is a life
Surviving is one thing, but living, truly living is something else.
Living is laughter and tears
Joys and fears
memories, regrets
glory, defeat
looking back on everything you have
seen
done
created
accomplished
failed
then succeeded
worked at
waited for
lived. Everything you've
lived.

No, there's a difference.
Empty.
That's what this is.
There was a time when I was full, full of
live
Hopes and dreams, thoughts, opinions
So, so full
each of us was full
Each and every one
But look at this, this is not
living
This is not even close
These bodies
were full once,
millions and billions and trillions
of hopes
dreams
thoughts
opinions
floating into the ether
gone to waste
Little brains
ideas
lives
must mean something
to these cold, cold hearts.
Can't a being mean something?
Can't a live be more valuable than this?
And the world stood silent.
And the world stands silent.

Suffocating, that's what this feels like
Dark, cold, and suffocating
overwhelmingly empty,

this silence.
