Calm Before The Storm

Calm Before The Storm

A Chapter by Kelly

Peeta and I sat in the long grass, under an enormous weeping willow tree. We often sat out here when the weather was nice. The sky was blue today, with only a few wispy clouds here and there. The wind blew softly, creating a sweet aroma of summer and peace. Every day, we watched as our children frolicked in the field, oblivious of the horrors that had taken place years ago. Our oldest child was now 14, with long dark tresses that shined bright in the sun. She had beautiful blue eyes that seemed to put the clearest sky to shame. Our youngest was 12, and still owned the curly locks he had as a young child. His hair was blonde, and he had deep, clear gray eyes similar to a cloud in the midst of a thunderstorm. They enjoyed playing tag in the long grass, happily chasing the other around without a care in the world. I often envied their peaceful, joyful childhood that I never had. I had to spend my entire life working to keep my family alive after our father was killed in the mines. But things were different now. I still remembered every horrifying moment of the two Hunger Games I was forced to compete in, but my life improved greatly. I no longer had to worry about things like that. I found joy in Peeta, our daughter Lily, and our son Isaac. We lived happily in what used to be District 12, in a nice farm house with horses and cows. Things could never get better, and I didn't think that anything could go wrong.
