My election viewsA Story by kelley's girlafter the election i knew i had to write-SOMETHING-about my feelings. so here goes...
this is copied from my personal blog.
my American view: Barack Obama was elected our 44th president of this great nation. While I did not vote for him, our democratic process showed that the majority of Americans that voted did. That is one thing that makes this such a great nation, we are allowed to voluntarily elect our leaders without threat of harm. I will support President-elect Obama when he takes office, because I am an American. All true Americans should do the same. This doesn't mean I have to agree with his views or the decisions he makes. It simply means that I want us to remain the UNITED States of America-not the DIVIDED States of America- the greatest nation on earth.
my racial view: I have much to say on both sides of this issue. First of all, anyone who votes for-or against-a candidate based on the color of his/her skin is a racist. I don't care what color you are. If you voted for Obama because he is a black man, you are a racist. If you voted against Obama because he is a black man, again, you are a racist. My decision was made on his beliefs and issues that I didn't agree with, not his skin color. That being said, we have elected a black president for the first time in this nation. That says alot seeing where we came from, many of our ancestors being slaves or slave owners. I have always believed that a person should get neither more nor less based on his/her skin color. I have never been a proponent of affirmative action because of this belief. I feel that my sons or daughter should be given the same advantages as anyone else when it comes to career or schooling. I don't think it is 'fair' or the American way-ALL men are created equal-to pass over a more qualified person that is white for a less qualified person of another race for whatever reason. (I also believe that if a person of color is more qualified they shouldn't be passed over for someone who is white, but I am talking about affirmative action here). The most qualifed should always be considered before anyone else regardless of skin color. All that brings me to say that I hope that affirmative action has seen its last days. We have proven that we are not a racist nation anymore. Do we still have racism? Of course we do, on both sides (look at Jeremiah Wright). But that will never change as we are all human beings with our own thoughts and feelings about other human beings. The majority of our nation voted into our highest office a man who happens to be black. So racism should never be an issue that we base our decisions on. Secondly, I have to interject now how upset I have been over all the racist jokes going around. I received one I thought was kind of cute on election day-and I forwarded it to my daughter. Then I realized that that is part of the problem. I am not a racist, but by forwarding that text, I put myself in that category. That isn't who I am. I'm not sure how many of these 'jokes' are from true racism, or a nervousness from the 'right' about how this 'left' president will govern our nation. What I am sure of is that they need to stop, all they are doing is dividing us even furthur. Please don't send any to me, I will not appreciate them nor will I forward them.
my financial view: All throughout his campaign Obama chanted 'change'. With our stock market going down the tubes the last few months, I believe this is probably what helped him get elected. Yes, we definitely need change, but is he the change we need? Before our congress had a democrat majority in 2006, things were good financially. The last two years have been disastrous for us. The blame keeps being put on President Bush, but as anyone with any political knowledge knows, the president is simply a figurehead. They don't have that much power in this country. If you want to place blame, do some research first. Democrats have been pushing for quite a while that 'everyone should own their own home, its the American dream'. Well, maybe it is, but make sure you can pay for it first. This is one thing that has crumbled the financial integrity of this nation. Too many banks lending to people that can't afford it, and too many people 'jumping in' without seeing how deep the water is first. Do I believe that everyone should own their own home? Yes and no. If you can afford it-and the upkeep on it-then yes, you should have your own home. If you are only going to add to the rising problem of forclosure-or let your property go to shambles-then stick to renting. Now I am not saying that everyone that buys a home and loses it is in the wrong. Things happen. People lose jobs. It has happened in my own family. But don't jump into a lake you can't swim in. Will Obama be able to fix such a rising crisis? I honestly don't know for sure. He doesn't give me alot of hope for that. But one woman on the radio seems to think he will fix it all. She stated that she voted for Obama because he is going to pay her mortgage and her phone bill. (?) Is that what he intended people to think? I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if our government starts meddling in all the ins and outs of our personal finances, we will soon become that socialist country that most of us are opposed to. Obama has stated himself that he is for redistribution of wealth-I pray that never happens. People that work hard for their money shouldn't be forced to give it away to the ones that don't. Yes, we should help the poor. But I believe that should be a personal decision, not a mandatory government one.
my 'life' view: As a Christian, I couldn't write about the election without mentioning one of the main reasons I voted for McCain. I believe that God formed us in the womb-the Bible says so. Therefore, I can't in all good conscience vote for a man who thinks abortion is okay. Not just abortion, but also late term abortion which I have read many horrid things about. Go do some research on it, I dare you. Even some proponents of abortion are against late term abortion because of the shocking reality of how it is done. He also is against saving these helpless little aborted babies that happen to be born alive. One woman held one for about 45 minutes in a hospital until it died. I would not want to stand before almighty God and try to explain why I voted for a man that has these beliefs. How could I explain that to Him? Murder of innocents. Millions of them over the years. The woman behind Roe vs. Wade has changed her view over the years. She is the reason that things changed for the worse in this nation in that area. (it would have happened anyway, she just happened to be the catalyst). But now she is against it. Funny how I never hear of someone that is against abortion changing their view to being for it. Many that used to think abortion is okay have come to believe that life is sacred from the moment of conception. I hope and pray that Obama will be one of them.
my health view: I think all Americans should have health insurance. I went for many years without it, so I know the difficulties of not having it. But I do not believe in a mandatory government issued health insurance. I know the horror stories of people in other countries waiting for months to see a doctor. Then they have to wait for months to get the treatment and surgeries they need. We don't want that here, trust me. Obama supports 'fining' people who don't get his mandatory insurance on their children. I say that is too much government involvement in our personal lives. Yes, we should all have insurance, but it should be a personal issue, not a government one. I have sat in an emergency room myself when I didn't have insurance, so I have the right to say all this. There is health care out there for everyone, whether you have insurance or not. Yes, you may have to wait awhile in line-I have-but you will get seen by a doctor without having to wait months. Mandatory insurance? I hope this never passes in congress.
my Christian view: I have saved the best for last. I am a conservative Christian. I have stated my 'life' beliefs earlier, so I won't rehash all of that here again. I believe as Christians that we should pray for the ones who lead us. The Bible doesn't say we have to agree with them, or their decisions, but it does tell us to pray for them. We should pray that they make the right decisions for this nation. We should pray for their salvation and health. If the Lord exhorts us to 'pray for our enemies', then how much more should we be praying for those who govern us? I can't stress this enough, trust me, they need our prayers. Romans 13 tells us to be subject to the governing authorities for they are appointed by God. Go read it. God's law comes first, then the government. We should obey our government unless it comes against God's law.
my personal Christian view: I separated this one from my Christian view, because alot of this was formed from my own personal observation and what I know about Bible prophecy. The Bible tells us that in the last days we would have earthquakes in divers-or many different-places. Watch the news, hardly a day or two goes by without hearing of some earthquake somewhere in the world. Last week, Dallas TX, Oklahoma and Tennessee all had minor quakes on the same day. Earthquakes? In Dallas? I lived there for 44 years, trust me, they don't have quakes there. The beginnings of sorrows, that is what the Bible calls it in Matthew 24:8. The Bible also tells us that in the last days the 'antichrist' will come to power. It calls him the 'beast' , we normally say the antichrist. He will demand that the whole world worship him and follow his law. If someone doesn't, they will be killed. I have often wondered how this would affect America. We are a very prideful nation. We don't bow before foreign leaders. I remember some conflict back in the 80's about 'dipping' our flag at the olympics before a foreign leader. I don't remember all the details about it, but thought it was interesting that we refused to dip-or bow, so to speak-even our flag at the presence of a foreign leader. (if i didnt get all that exactly right, excuse me, i only remember parts of it. feel free to correct me if you know more about it-:) But that has stuck with me over the years and I wondered how we-as a 'right' nation-would ever bow to a world leader. Over the years we have drifted more to 'middle-right'. Now under a democratic government it seems we are more 'middle' to 'middle left'. Senator Obama is the most liberal person to ever get elected to the white house. How will that affect us in these last days? It is my belief that we will continue to drift away from our conservative past. He has shown his 'powers of persuasion' over many people. He has a 'rock star' image-people faint at his conventions. While I believe we should pray for him as our leader, I also believe he may be the one that begins to turn us away from our background. This nation was founded on Christian principles, by Christians. Our constitution was written by Christians. (go check it out, nowhere are the words 'seperation of church and state' written). I got this from an article by Hal Lindsey:
James Madison, considered the father of our Constitution, wrote, "We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our political institutions upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God." John Adams also spoke along these lines, "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. … Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."
All that being said, something or someone has to turn us-or overwhelm us- somewhere down the line in order for us to become a nation that is no longer too prideful to bow to a world leader. Is it Obama? Maybe, maybe not. But he is definitely a step in that direction. His liberal views have permeated every household in one way or another. Some say he is the antichrist himself. Personally I don't believe that. But if these are the last days, even America's leadership will bow to a world leader. Will it be under his presidency? I have no way of knowing that. I will continue to pray for him, and for the decisions he makes as our next president. All I know is that Jesus himself is coming back very soon and I want all my family and friends to be ready. Are you?
May God bless you and may God continue to bless America. © 2008 kelley's girlReviews
