What A Child Really Wants

What A Child Really Wants

A Poem by Mickey

But can't you see?

I don't need the cupcakes for the school events
with the extra pink icing
each swirled and shaped into beautiful flowers,
I don't need the early suppers
with the table all set
each utensil placed neatly with its companion,
I don't need the dry cleaned clothes
with the perfect pleats
each skirt matching its blouse,
I don't need the newest gadgets
with the shiny cases and colors
each shining in the store fronts window,
I don't need the perfect family
with a daddy and a mommy
each smiling into each others eyes in the framed photograph.

Can't you see, that all I need,
is the warmth and love
bursting
from your heart?

This is a great poem I really liked it! It's scary how families can lose sight of this and replace love with "shiny gadgets". It's scary to think how one will be with their own kids. This was a theme I have yet to see on this site.
