Cycle

Cycle

A Poem by Chara

Lying on my bed

Snuggled between the cushions

Basking in the comfort and heat emitted by the soft fabric of quilt

Frantic and light-headed

I decided to sleep instead

For failure is not on my mindset

Just death

A thought engulfed my mind

“I’m going to regret this later”

Even though it did

It did not stop me from closing my eyes and basking in the comfort of my bed

For failure is not on my mindset

Just death

I always question what life is worth

The phrase “Life is an adventure!” becomes overused, overrated even

It makes my ears ring, filling my insides with abhorrence

The thought makes me want to vomit

It romanticizes the meaning of life

Making people believe that life is just a green pasture

Untouched, waiting to be discovered

“Life is an adventure!”

Maybe it is

Rather than green pastures and wide paths,

It is an adventure, a trek

It is a steep summit with high chances of falling into your demise

The sun

With all its glory

Its condescending gleam

With its narcissistic notion

Thinking that it is the most significant in the celestial bodies

Life is a cycle

Every morning, the sun invades you with its rays and warmth, presuming that you are in dire need of one

No, you don’t

But rather, you just want to conceal yourself and scamper away from its overwhelming luminescence

sometimes we feel like that no doubt ... life a drudgery ... sunshine intrusive :( and sleep most definitely an escape we use ... better than drugs and alcohol says i! :) i am retired one might and do say old .. and i love my naps and sleeping at night .. but i also love getting up ... each breath more precious as in your poem "I Am" ... death is most certainly our constant companion ... i have a tat of a skeleton captain at a weathered, broken helm and around the wheel in Gailic a saying that goes "Death be Captain, Body be mine" ;) depression is a devastating illness ... so very many of us suffer it .. as old as mankind ... finally we are doing more to defeat it ... i like the contrasts you create with strength and futility ... that warm snug bed so relateable .. not wanting to get up ... the repetition of "...its not my mindset" is very provocative says i ... your character takes on a complex mind and spirit .. i want to know more ... with all that going on the cynicism doesn't seem to match ... so i wonder who is deceiving who in this .. reading "Cycle" has got me going this morning .. thanks for sharing!

it is such a tough feeling to wake up each day trying to find a reason to want to live...
life can get so overwhelming...we just want to sleep and not wake up to it anymore.
such sadness here and despair but so beautifully written,
j.
