Chapter Five: Slytherpuff

Chapter Five: Slytherpuff

A Chapter by Keiko OConnor

How the shock of five people could fill a room so fast was beyond me. As I walked to the clapping Slytherin table, jaw still dropped, I noticed my brother laughing...laughing so hard in fact, that he fell onto the ground. I turned to look at the Hufflepuff table and saw Ernie looking at me as if I had just slapped his mother. I took a seat in between Addeline and Pansy, Malfoy and his companions in front of us.

"Well...uh...it's better than Gryffindor Taylor.." Addeline said with a pitiful smile.

"Actually, I think it's fantastic, you have far too much potential to be in HUFFLEPUFF anyway." spoke Draco.

I couldn't speak.

After a few more people were sorted, the feast began.

What was I going to tell my parents? Should I lie to save them the humiliation?

I looked over a few rows and saw Nathan..still laughing. When we made eye contact he motioned his hands as if he was writing a letter home to mom and dad. I felt my stomach drop.

"Is THAT thing your brother?!" Malfoy asked in disgust. I nodded. "Ha, well you won't have to worry about associating with HIM anymore, seeing as in he couldn't even get into Slytherin."

After about an hour, the feast ended and we were introduced to our Head of House, Professor Snape.

I couldn't hear a thing he was saying over Malfoy caroling on about being best friends with Harry Potter.

"B-But Draco, didn't he tell you he wanted nothing to do with you when we got off the train?" asked Pansy.

"Shhhhh..Shh.." censored Malfoy.

"Wait, wha..." I started to ask, but was then silenced by Professor Snape.

"Oh an excited first year..Mr...Valentino is it? I appreciate your enthusiasm, but save it for after I'm done speaking. Now, what I was saying..this is one of my star pupils, Rolf Gore, he is a Slytherin prefect, and will be showing you to your dormitories. Rolf..."

"Thank you Professor Snape, right this way first years.."

We were led down to the dungeon where everyone 'oo-ed' and 'aww-ed' at the green lights and the Slytherin decor.

I sat down on one of the empty couches in the Common Room and was joined by my new friends. I was still sick about not being a Hufflepuff, that I didn't even hear Goyle inviting me to stay in their room.

"Huh? Oh, yeah..yeah that'd be great...thanks.." I answered.

"We have the extra bed since Jacob didn't come.." added Draco.

"Hey Taylor, if you want, we can meet up with Ernie tomorrow morning..only if you want.." spoke Addeline

"Why do you say it like I wouldn't want to talk to him Addeline?"

"It's just...ya know...Hufflepuffs are..how you say..judgemental if you're not one of THEM.."

seeing the annoyed expression on my face she added,

"..but I'm sure Ernie is different."

After another hour talking about Quidditch and our new class schedules, the guys and I headed up to the new room.

I walked as calmly as I could to my bed without looking too upset, and sat down.

I could see it now..as soon as break came a long, I'd come home and see my stuff on the front porch and Nathan with the broadest grin stretched across his face.

"It's REALLY not that bad Taylor." reassured Goyle.

"Yeh Tyler ifts not thaf big of a deal.." followed Crabbe.

I let out a last sigh, turned over, and fell asleep.
