The first and only official edition of the parody horror game was called Baldi's Basics. This game cannot be taken at face value.

The 2018 parody survival horror game Fundamentals of Education and Learning by Baldi, created by American independent developer Micah McGonigal, is also known as Baldi's Basics and Baldi's Basics Classic. The game parodies educational video games from the 1990s by using subpar graphics and ideas that are similar to those of 3D Dinosaur Adventure, IM Meen, and Sonic's Schoolhouse. Baldi's Basics was first made obtainable as a beta version on March 31, 2018, for Microsoft Windows and macOS. Baldi's Basics Plus, the entire version of this game with all of its new features and main gameplay, went on early access on June 12, 2020.

The main character's friend had left seven notebooks at the local school, but he was running late and "rehearsing," so he needed the main character to go retrieve them for him. When the player initially arrives, he encounters a teacher named Baldi who will give him three simple math problems each time he finds a notepad. The player will get a reward if he can pass each test with success. In addition, Baldi is a very irritated guy who, after giving the player a duty to do, would begin following them if they come up with the wrong answer. The main character must keep searching while avoiding other students and several obstacles for every other notepad. The player will have to encounter an alternate ending that includes a distorted version of Baldi and another hidden character that pushes them to ruin the game before it finishes automatically if they decide to answer every question incorrectly.
