Windows of My SoulA Poem by Lunette LarizI'd rather see nothing."Good morning, Mrs. Asuncion!"
My daydream was blown like smoke. They had already stood up and greeted her, Our beloved Algebra teacher. She is this kind and considerate type, The one who would repeat the lesson over again, The one who gives credit to even the minutest effort, And gives her student full support. "We'll have a recitation today." Goodness gracious, I didn't study! "Let's start at the back." oh yes, it is me. I am seated at the back, unfortunately. "The answer's 146," I told the class. But all I received were murmurs. What, my answer's wrong? How could it be? 1+146 isn't that long. "Would you please look at it again, hija?" I obeyed my teacher. But all I could see was 1+145 all the way. My eyes did not fool me, or did they? My teacher went near my place, She raised the card to let me see it, What? 1+1+5 was written, So it means that the answer was really seven. Okay, I think I had an illusion. I saw 1+5 as 145. I wouldn't give that much attention, If only Ma'am didn't advise me to check my vision. I really didn't think about that in my entire life. It didn't occurred in my mind, That I might have an eye problem, Or maybe an Astigmatism. Yes, thanks to my dearest Algebra teacher. I wouldn't have gotten back my clear vision without her. I'm delightful to wear my first spectacles, And to hear what my optometrist tells. It is glad to look at the oceans and seas, To play the computer and watch the TV. My good, how wondrous the world could be and all, This is because of the windows of my soul. But what are these that I always see? Destruction, quarrels, and abuse of people like there is no He. I'd rather not wear my spectacles then, I'd rather see nothing than to see those again. © 2012 Lunette LarizAuthor's Note
