Windows of My Soul

Windows of My Soul

A Poem by Lunette Lariz
"

I'd rather see nothing.

"
"Good morning, Mrs. Asuncion!"
My daydream was blown like smoke.
They had already stood up and greeted her,
Our beloved Algebra teacher.

She is this kind and considerate type,
The one who would repeat the lesson over again,
The one who gives credit to even the minutest effort,
And gives her student full support.

"We'll have a recitation today."
Goodness gracious, I didn't study!
"Let's start at the back." oh yes, it is me.
I am seated at the back, unfortunately.

"The answer's 146," I told the class.
But all I received were murmurs.
What, my answer's wrong?
How could it be? 1+146 isn't that long.

"Would you please look at it again, hija?"
I obeyed my teacher.
But all I could see was 1+145 all the way.
My eyes did not fool me, or did they?

My teacher went near my place,
She raised the card to let me see it,
What? 1+1+5 was written,
So it means that the answer was really seven.

Okay, I think I had an illusion.
I saw 1+5 as 145.
I wouldn't give that much attention,
If only Ma'am didn't advise me to check my vision.

I really didn't think about that in my entire life.
It didn't occurred in my mind,
That I might have an eye problem,
Or maybe an Astigmatism.

Yes, thanks to my dearest Algebra teacher.
I wouldn't have gotten back my clear vision without her.
I'm delightful to wear my first spectacles,
And to hear what my optometrist tells.

It is glad to look at the oceans and seas,
To play the computer and watch the TV.
My good, how wondrous the world could be and all,
This is because of the windows of my soul.

But what are these that I always see?
Destruction, quarrels, and abuse of people like there is no He.
I'd rather not wear my spectacles then,
I'd rather see nothing than to see those again.

Salute to the teachers!!!
We're on the same boat for this one...
I often read the directions in a different way which reminds me of how many times it happened before..

"It is glad to look at the oceans and seas,
To play the computer and watch the TV."
There are many great things to see... I don't know what I'll do if I can't read novels anymore... It's no problem with listening to music... But I'll miss writing and drawing nonsense...

"I'd rather not wear my spectacles then,
I'd rather see nothing than to see those again."
We can't ignore the fact that bad things exist...
That's why some say that the world is black and white...

Yeah.. hahaha! Thanks! :)
I understand this poem. I can't see nothing without my glasses. Nice description of a small problem that can expand. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.

A highly descriptive account with a rather philosophical conclusion that I liked immensely. Very well done.

Oh, thank you so much! :D
Blessing come from unexpected places. And true vision comes from the soul.
Nicely demonstrated.

no problem;)
I liked the concept and you ended well. The first few stanzas felt like they went on with no appearent focus. Ha(get the punn?). Yet your poem hits on a great truth. The innocence of ignorance can be bliss. Our "eyes" or our education in life can change the soul in ways we wish it did not.
Well done.
I wrote a poem on this subject called the The Haunting House.
Enjoyed your take on the subject.

This is rather simple, but I like how you tell the story. It IS a little bit cheesy, though.

Not my usual preference, or rather this is beyond what I would read by choice. Nonetheless, I see the concept you portray from your mind and its lovely, just not my preference.
