One wordA Story by Keith's RamblingsA 60-second storyIt was their anniversary. He burst through the apartment door clutching a magnificent bouquet. She was nowhere to be seen. Everything of hers, gone. The robe door ajar, her garments vanished. Drawers yawned, empty. The dressing table, bare, her bits and pieces of colours and smells, disappeared. He bent down trying to capture a little of her fragrance and lingered as he breathed it in. For a second he thought he saw her, sitting there on the bed. He wiped a tear from his eye and she was gone. The flowers dropped to the floor. His phone vibrated, startling him. He stabbed the screen, his heart pounding in his chest. A text appeared. ‘Sorry’ it said. Just one word, ‘Sorry’. He pressed Reply and typed a single word back. ‘Why?’ He trembled, phone clutched in his shaking hand. It burst back into life, another text. ‘Sorry’ it said, just one word. ‘Sorry’.. © 2022 Keith's Ramblings |
