the Ocean of God

the Ocean of God

A Poem by Kelly D. Burris

You are always there my God!
Always hearing me call
always loving me completely, leaving no void
always blessing me
always connected even if I don't feel
our seperateness, you and I
Your Holy Spirit in me, and I in you
as swimming in the ocean
refreshing, gently waving
completely surrounded by you...

Distractions come quickly at me
bringing me to a place that I embrace fear,
confusion comes to my mind
my thoughts jumping to attention
trying to remedy the situation myself
taking me, tossing me in a different direction
not wanting to fight the rough currents, I give in
drifting, drifting away from you
harder and harder to hear you now
unaware
I am being pushed to the shore
busy listening to myself
soon I am walking through the difficult sand
unaware
through the tall grass, up into the trees, into the forrest
where light is dim and it's hard to see...
I think I know where I am going
set my own course, heading in the wrong direction
unaware
further away from your tangible presence
further away from your peace
away from your wisdom
away from your blessings
from encountering you
from your glory
being able to see and feel the love
you have for
me.....
because I have chosen my own directions
going towards the wrong destination
why am I here feeling alone and misplaced, unloved and cared for....darkness
hopelessness, fear, and anger surround me
and suffocate me....

Oh, God wake me from this nightmare!
I am aware!
Bring me back into your presence soft, soothing and warm...
I see revelation in the vision you have for me!
Wisdom on how to get there,
blessings along the way
feeling the hope of your grace, mercy and being completed,
at peace, whole, loved!

Through the trees I see light
I see now the path back to the shoreline...
I go closer now, I hear you calling faintly
growing louder
closer
feeling your peace in the breeze, across my skin
your presence in the mist of the waves
your breath upon me.
Standing at the waters edge, feeling it wash me
your goodness pours over me...
Wading out deeper, feeling refreshed and cooled
moving now in unison with you...
Swimming now in the Ocean of God, all around me
touching your goodness, love and blessings
connected again...
It was there all along!

Looking back I see,
unaware
others have followed me,
others returning to your Ocean....

this was a good piece to worship your god with. I think you have expressed a great love for him, but you feel it in you because of the I AM that you are. just my opinion.

great job.

I wish to stand upon those shores one day but for now I see not. A very nice religious piece, it shows the commitment you have towards the lord and what he means in your life. Once again your images are well put together and I like the splashes of rhyme you added as well.

Too many times we go by our own way of thinking instead of listening to tha still small voice that speaks to us through the Holy Spirit..We drift but He always tugs us back if we only believe in Him and His love , mersy and grace..God bless...Valentine

I love this. He is so amazing. Where would we be without the God of the universe??? :-)
