Voices

Voices

A Poem by Mortimer Brewster

I lay in my room staring at four evil walls
They mock me they taunt me they haunt me
All the while these walls keep my screams from the halls
They wont let me escape they wont let me be free
The door knob is locked and no one will let me out
I hear a voice on the other side of the door free to roam
They tap on the walls they chuckle at my pain
I need to break free I need to leave I must find an escape route
They laugh at my escape attempts they know what I’m trying to do
I try to break the door down I try to bust the walls open
They only laugh harder they know its no use
I punch I kick I do everything i can until my bones are broken
They continue to taunt to to laugh to haunt to scream in joy
I realize escape is futile I feel myself giving up
They know they have won they scream louder the taps turn into bangs
The noise is too much I cant move I cant stop the fear welling up
The screams are now unbearable I’ll do anything to stop it straightaway
With a click and bang there finally is silence finally I’m free it’s over now
The silence is so beautiful I’m so glad that the voices made me obey
