Indian Lords Sang

Indian Lords Sang

A Poem by Katherine Cabrera

The Indian lords sang

The Indian lords sang,

They sang with their hearts, a tune that only they understood.

The song filled the dark night,

Quieting crickets,

Creating a breeze, a whispering breeze,

The waves of the river touched the moon and the stars,

Each forming the dark sky,

The Indian lords sang.

The friendly dog hopped in the dark,

Ears flapping, belly dancing.

Indians lords sing to me.

The wild animals stood still on the hot concrete floor,

Wild animals filled their bellies with spirits,

Filled their eyes,

Filled their hearts,

The happy dog tapped through the lonely night,

The Indian gods were his company.

The music played loudly,

Loud enough for others to sleep; as believers awaked,

Indian lords sing a tune I can't understand.

Sing a tune that fills me,

Sing a tune that drive my worries away,

The noisy gate opened and creaked interrupting the quiet night.
