A Fictional Love

A Fictional Love

A Story by K. Bridgid

The damp salty air kissed her face as she walked along the sand, hand in hand with him. Their fingers interlocked so perfectly. The sky was a beautiful navy blue, and the moon was reflecting off the water. A warm feeling of content took over her entire body. Suddenly he stopped and picked her up. She was sitting in his arms and staring into his eyes. He pretended to drop her into the cool water.

“Don’t you dare!” She said. He smiled and kissed her forehead gently. He took her under the pier and they sat in the soft sand. His arms wrapped around her body, keeping her warm from the chilly ocean breeze. She turned to him and leaned in for a kiss, but he moved away. She stared with a confused look on her face.

“What was that for?” She asked.

“I wasn’t ready to stop looking at you. You’re so beautiful, I just can’t get enough of you,” he replied.

Her cheeks turned rosy and she looked to the ground with her lips forming a little grin. He placed his hands on her face and their foreheads touched. They were staring into each other’s eyes. He kissed her gently, yet still passionately.

“I love you so much. I promise I will never let you go.” He said. The butterflies in her stomach she felt on their first date returned. It felt as if she were floating on a cloud. Eyes shut tight, they kissed again and all she could think was how beautiful love is. She could feel it deep in her soul, and it was burning as if saying this is the most magnificent feeling you can ever experience in this world.

But when she opened her eyes she was no longer on the cool sand. She was in her bed. And was reminded that what she had just dreamed about was not reality. Her beautiful green eyes that were once so full of life faded and filled with tears. The burning feeling she had once felt was replaced with emptiness. That night he said “I love you” he did not mean it. For he left shortly after. He left her to drown in her own salty tears.

I miss you,” she whispered and buried her face in her pillow and spent another sleepless night alone.
