Darling

Darling

A Poem by K. Bridgid

Oh darling

I’m gonna make you miss me

Because once you see me smile

It’ll break your heart

You’ll remember our memories

The good

The bad

And it’ll make your heart ache

You’re gonna crave my presence

But darling

Once you betray me

You don’t get me back

You know what you walked out on

You know what you lost

You know what you’re missing

Oh darling you know

So I’m gonna hold my head high

I’m gonna be happy without you

Because darling

You’re a poison

Even though it’s still killing me

That I can’t wake up every morning

See your lips, your eyes, your sweet sweet smile

I don’t miss you

I miss the idea of you

The idea of you and me

The idea of being happy together

But darling there’s just one thing

I don’t miss you or what you are

I miss what you could be

You’ll never change

But darling I already have

You aren’t what I want

You aren’t what I need

Someone else has what I want

Someone else has what I need

I’m gonna do what makes me happy

I’m gonna let my smile shine

I’m gonna be everything you want

And everything you can’t have

Because darling

You’re the one who pulled the plug

You’re the one who gave up

I’m the one who tried

I gave you too many second chances

I let you lead me on

But darling

I’m done

You’re gonna see me happy

You’re gonna see me strive

You’re gonna see me succeed

And I’m gonna do it on my own

Now darling

This is my final farewell to you

Because you held me back

You made me feel weak and vulnerable

So I’m saying goodbye

To what we had

What we could have been

All our possibilities

And I’m not gonna miss you

Because you know what darling

I miss me

I wasn’t me when I was with you

I’ll be happy

You’ll see

And the day you change your mind

I won’t be coming back to you

Because darling

I’m finally free

W-O-W! I absolutely adore this poem! Not only is it beautifully written, it has great flow and such an amazing feel to it. While reading this I imagined a strong woman, putting on her lipstick and saying this into the mirror as she picks herself back up. I definitely understand the feelings in this poem. I especially loved the line where you said "I loved the Idea of you" And I love the bitter tone with which Darling is said, Such contrast to it's usual. I am for sure favoriting this. Absolutely inspired! I love it. Amazing job Brigid! I can't wait to see more of your writing!
