This is the happy part of the story. I originally wrote this for English class and I did plan on having more for this story, but I had to cut down. I'm going to just post the English class version.

Day 12 Love

Prologue

The story that is about to be told is mostly fact, but since I am not of someone to put trouble on a person some of the names and details have been changed. This story could have had two endings: I could just cut it short and keep a happy ending, yet I would feel as though I’m cheating you, the reader, from the real ending. Since I have decided to give the real story this will be placed in a time of 12 days.

Day 1

There I am at my homecoming dance. I always felt a little depressed at homecoming since I never had a date to a dance or anything of the sort. I barely knew anyone there since mostly underclassmen were there at the time. I walked around being socially ignorant as I like to say since I don’t really know how to be social. I would say hey to some people I knew, but I never kept a conversation going.

About 30 minutes passed and my friends James and Elizabeth arrived. At last someone I was good friends with showed. I talked to them for a bit and hanged with them.

Another 30 minutes passed and I decided to get my MP3 player out since I wanted to hear actual good music and I was hoping a song would make me less timid. After a few songs I decided to play one of my all time favorites. I put on “Day 11 Love” by Ayreon. The lyrics are close to perfectly describing the situation.

“. . . There she was out of the blue,

Thunderstruck, nailed to the floor,

Couldn’t move, couldn’t talk anymore . . .”

I was listening to the lyrics closely as always and it really does describe my actions sometimes for I always seem to chicken out from asking a girl to dance and then my favorite part came on.

“. . . You’re afraid she might turn you down,

All your hopes dashed to the ground,

Nobody loves you, nobody will,

Why should you even try . . . but still . . .”

I would always think like how the lyrics said, but every time I hear the 2 words, “. . . but still . . .” That’s when my shyness left me.

I took off my head phones and went through the crowd of students. I saw a very cute girl near her friends, but unlike her friends, she didn’t have a companion to dance with. I went towards her and tapped her shoulder and said, “Would you like to dance?”

She looked a little surprised and with a smile she said, “Yes, but I don’t know how to dance.”

I smiled and said, “Neither do I.” I grabbed her hands and we moved from left to right. She had a beautiful smile on her pretty face with the eyes to take you in and her hair was a darkish brown pulled back into a usual style girls wear at homecoming. While dancing I kept thinking about how was I so lucky to be dancing with such a cute girl.

There we are moving from left to right. She said, “You lied. You can dance.”

I replied, “I never thought I could.” Then I asked, “What is your name?”

“Linda Marx. What’s yours?”

“My name is Bradley Jamison.” When I said my name all I could think was ‘Oh s**t! Oh s**t! Please don’t tell me you’re Alex’s sister.’ I then asked “What grade are you in?”

“I am a freshman. How about you”?

I said a little nervously, “I’m a junior.” I was a little worried about this cause she is a little young, yet I am a little young to be junior.

She then said quickly, “Do you know Alex? He’s my brother.”

It did worry me a little since I do know Alex and I didn’t want it to be awkward between me and him. I nodded yes to her and kept dancing with her.

We’ve been dancing for about 10 minutes and her friends wanted us to dance in a awkward position for me. She had her back to me and was close and moving. Pretty much we started to grind even though our bodies were not as close as her friends and their dates. I hated this way of dancing because I didn’t know how close she would want me to be and I always found grinding to be an example of the downfall of our society, but this would be getting us off topic. So she had my hands on her hips and she was moving around. I really felt awkward, but I didn’t say anything since I didn’t want to insult her or her friends.

She then told me, “Today is my birthday. I turn 15 today.”

I was a little relieved now since the age difference isn’t that different. I then said, “Oh really? Happy birthday then. I hope you’re having a good one.”

“Thanks. I am.” When the song ended she said, “I hope I’m not keeping you from anyone.”

I chuckled and said, “You’re not.”

“Good. I’m getting thirsty. Want to get some water?”

“Sure.” We headed towards the water coolers.

Some of her friend’s parents were sitting there, chaperoning the dance. I would of found it to be a little awkward to be one of her friends since they are really just dry humping with their dates, but I suppose the parents didn’t see. So Linda introduced me and while she was talking to them I got me and her some water. She smiled and thanked me.

When we finished our water we walked back to the spot before. When we got back she had me back in the same awkward dance except now she is closer and has my hands lower on her hips. I hate this ridiculous dance so much, but again I didn’t want to be insulting.

We then started to talk about music we liked and then finally a slow dance came on. I was so relieved and we went into a regular slow dance. It was nice and I wish we could dance like this instead of being pressured into grinding. When the song ended the bloody DJ wanted everyone to form a circle for a dance battle I think. We helped form it, but I didn’t pay any attention on the people participating. We started to hold each other’s hand and began swinging our arms and kept looking at each other while smiling.

We went back to the slow dance position and actually stayed this way except now her head was on my shoulder. This made me feel truly happy for the first time in a long time. A guy came up to me and said, “You’re the luckiest dude at the dance.”

I said, “I know.”

She looked so happy and us being together was amazing. The DJ later called out last dance and we finished the dance and everyone was getting ready to leave.

She said, “Thank you for dancing with me. Can I have your number?”

I said yes, but it got a little awkward since she didn’t have her phone on her so I ended up getting her number instead. We then hugged each other and we said our goodbyes. IT truly was one of the greatest nights of my life.
