HeartbeatA Poem by that-little-green-monsterAnother poem I wrote to try to help me out of my writer's block. Not my best. Fictional poem.
The rhythmic beating,
Thump, thump, thump. My personal lullaby. I listen to your heartbeat, Always the same, My never changing way to know you're with me. Sometimes it doesn't feel like you're real, That you'll slip from my fingers, That I'll wake up from a pleasant dream. But when you wrap me in your embrace, And I hear your heartbeat, I know this is reality, And you're here with me. Your heartbeat, Steady and sure. So unlike my own, That flutters like wings on a bird. Something about your heartbeat, And your's alone, Lulls me into a sense of security. I could never imagine, Laying my head on your chest, And hearing nothing. No matter what we've been through, The hysterical fights, The tearful goodbyes, The distances, We've been through it all, And you swore, As long as your heart beats, You'll stay with me. So I lay my head on your chest, Just to check everyday, To make sure your heartbeat will stay. But you had to pick a fight, With the one person that could hurt you. Down you fell, And I flew to your side, Lay my head on your chest like I did everyday, And instead of the drumming inside, My strong sure reassurance. There was nothing. So I knew you left me. © 2012 that-little-green-monsterReviews
