The Meaning of Love

Some loves are not meant to be.

I'm done fighting for you,
When I know you weren't even trying.
I'm done standing up for you,
While you're just lying.
I've stuck by you,
And you promised to do the same.
I guess you're just an actor,
Fooling me like everyone else.
You don't know the meaning of love.

I've tried my hardest,
But it's never enough for you.
Whenever they come calling,
You always run off to them.
I'm done trying,
You don't know the meaning of love.

Author's Note

"they" are those really mean girls you know are bad for you but your best friend/boyfriend seems to love them.

This is great. The voice in this is rather gender ambiguous to me though... Your note at the end gives it so much more meaning. I'm wondering if you could make it clear which gender you were speaking from and if it would enhance the poem? I love how you say the same thing over and over again, but in a different way, which feeds on the pain of heartbreak like this. It's like the throbbing repetition of a fresh wound. great work, so true, artfully done. :)

I know how this feels exactly.
Some people just don't understand love "truly".
I think it's great that you tried to atleast fight for the person and stuck by their side. You just wanted to love the person and then that happens. It sucks.
