GreedA Poem by Marie BaskervilleAnother installment of my seven deadly sins anthology...She
could be generous, if she wanted. She
could let others take the credit, if she felt like doing so. She
could eradicate her expectations of others, but she
knows she will not, she cannot. Her
wealth and status are only what she feels she deserves. Who
would settle for their fair share in this life when
they could have so much more? Deceitful,
ruthless and insatiable. Her
eyes, topaz in the sunlight, glisten
as she admires yet another purchase. She has
no need for these material possessions, they
merely fulfil her inexplicable desires. She does
not see her wrong doing, her
covetous ways. She
believes this to be logic, that if
one can possess something they want, they should. She
believes in materialistic value. She does
not comprehend sentimental values, or being
satisfied with what you have been given. She only
understands greed. © 2012 Marie Baskerville |
