Chapter 1A Chapter by Suicidal Teddybearthis is just setting stuff up just not very well i really dont know where to go with it Chapter one “This is the worst day of my life. End of. Why do my parents never listen to me? When I want to move we don’t move, when I’m happy and have friends we move what the f**k is up with that?” Emma was talking to her friend Hayley on the phone. She told her best friend everything, they were inseparable. This was her last day in her now old house, the family were moving away to Ireland. Her dad has a job in the police and wanted to go back to his roots, so they had to pack up and go to a little village just outside Dublin. Emma had always wanted to go to Ireland but now she was upset that her parents let her make friends only to take them away from her a year later, giving her just enough time to get really attached to the friends she now had to leave. “The only thing I can say is it better have cute boys, I’ve had no luck here!” Emma laughed at the poor excuse for males she had at her school. “I know seriously they think that a football game is romantic!” They laughed together on the phone. The last boy that asked Emma out was a boy called James. Now James wasn’t a bad or a nasty boy, he was nice and he tried hard but he just wasn’t good with girls. When he asked Emma out, he posted a note in her locker during break. Emma came to find this note and she thought I t was sweet but that’s not the kind of guy she wanted, she wanted someone confident and cool, she wanted Dan. Dan was her brother’s best friend and he was the ladies man of her school, all the girls were jealous that she got to hang out with him when her brother was home with his friends, they were also jealous that she had the brother she had. All her friends had a crush on him and she didn’t understand it, she knew he was good looking but he was her brother so she didn’t see the attraction. But she adored him and looked up to him to protect her from any boy that messed her around, not that happened often Emma took care of herself. “Ok well I have to go now, Aaron’s home and we’re going to play a game downstairs ... yay family time ...” Emma was never too keen on spending time with her family, her parents always asked silly questions like “have you done your homework?” “It’s due next Tuesday ... What do you think?” “Where did you last see it?” “Well I saw it right before YOU moved it that was the last time.” Emma heard her mum shouting her again “YES IM COMING!” She made her way down the stairs in to the front room; everyone was already set up they were playing Pictionary. The front room was neat and tidy pictures coving the walls of her parents wedding, Emma and her brother as children and school photos. The walls were a nice mint colour and the carpet was cream and soft. Everyone was sat down at the table waiting for Emma to join them so they could start the game. Emma was never one for games she was a bad loser, but only because she seemed to lose all the time, and when someone let her win she would feel cheated and then would refuse to carry on. This time she was determined to have fun but win, she didn’t spend much time with her family and thought it would be best to start as her birthday was coming up and she wanted new shoes for the school dance they held every year. Her school was one of those schools that tried to be cool, all the signs would be written in text language and would say things like “u can b who u wnt 2 b”. Emily and her friends always made fun of this; they thought they were more grown up than this ... obviously. She was in the cool gang in her school which meant she never had problems with dates to dances. She was asked out by four different boys last year but she had her heart set on Dan and even though she was going away she had arranged to go to her final dance at Paramount High. She would come back for the weekend and stay with Hayley and her parents and she would get picked up after. While Emma sat down to play she looked around and saw some snacks so she got up and helped herself to some twiglets. “Emma have you got everything packed and ready to go?” her mother liked to double check things and this really annoyed Emma especially now. “Yes I’ve had to done for about a week I’m not a child” Emma huffed and sat down “Don’t take that tone young lady. For all I know you could have taken things out and placed them somewhere and before you know it you lose things.” Emma’s mum was used to her daughter attitude about the situation by now but it still bugged her. She didn’t like her daughter blaming her for being unhappy and taken away from her friends but the truth was they needed to move the new job her husband had was going to give them more money and it was his only option to stay employed as he was close to being let off due to cuts. Emma sat with her arms slightly folded, pursed lips and an attitude on her face. She thought about all the memories in this house she’d had a good year here and made some amazing friends then she decided to snap out of her sulk and make the most of her last night in this lovely house. Emma leaned over to pick up a card, it was the pyramids, Aaron turned over the timer and the minute began. Shouting and name calling ensued this was the only problem in playing it always got very loud. “Ok, ok it was a Pyramid I thought it looked like a cat toy” Aaron teased. Emma hated getting teased by her brother as he was older then her she had to put up with it all her life they were constantly bickering and fighting over silly things like who has to empty the litter tray and who’s turn to wash the dishes. You know normal sibling stuff. “Yeah well it’s better than your version of a robot! It looked like a stickman with armour.” Emma got up and went to go finish packing; she had only her essentials left to put in a box. She just stood there staring at her life in boxes, she cried silently. When she woke up in the morning her parents said they would be leaving at 2pm so Emma and Aaron could go say goodbye to their friends. Emma was on Hayley’s door step when she had to breathe deeply to stop herself from crying again once she felt the lump subside in her throat and the ability to talk she pressed the door bell, and waited. Hayley answered and the pair of them just stood hugging and crying for a while. When the two calmed down Hayley offered Emma inside. “Thanks” Emma sniffed “I thought I was ready to go I’d said goodbye already and I mentally prepared myself” Emma sat down on the sofa and tried to make the last few hours with her best friend memorable. Hayley sat beside her and started to rub Emma’s arm “it’s going to be ok we’ll talk on the phone and have visits, we’ll still be best friends I promise”. Emma looked up and smiled “thank you and I know you can’t get rid of me that easily”. Walking back form Hayley’s house Emma tried to not get too emotional that she was being taken away from the things and people she loved. In the car all she could do was look out the window and think of the life she was being taken away from. Constant sighs from the back and as the journey wore on she felt her eyes slowly closing as she fell asleep. When she woke up they were on the ferry and Emma was bored so she went and walked around. She stopped and wondered around looking for things to do. She went to W H Smiths and got a book to read for the read for the time. She made her way and started reading this consumed most of the time left as she was so engrossed. She felt the car stop and she lifted her head and sighed, she didn’t want to be here. Emma gathered her things and put them in her bag in front of her seat so she wouldn’t be bored on the way but she felt too preoccupied with the whole ordeal. She walked to her bedroom and just looked at all the boxes she would have to unpack. She never understood how a life could fit in to boxes; everything you own crammed in, picked up and moved. The first thing she unpacked as her Hermione poster that covered a whole wall. It was her prize possession she had entered a harry Potter Competition and the prize was a limited edition banner that was put up in Cinemas. She had to write an essay explaining why she deserved it. Of course she found the winning entry not long after unpacking the banner. When I think of Harry Potter I think of epicness, I think of all the children that have been inspired to read again. Jo Rowling has made so many children think and imagine again. The little book thought of on a train from Glasgow to London has become one of the greatest books of all time. I think the films have also brought a new audience to the book franchise.... Emma smiled as she re read her entry she had such passion for reading and these books in general were her favourite. The friends she had made through the books were friends for life. “Emma!” She sighed and went down the stairs where a table was set up with plates and cups. “Come get your dinner.” The only good thing about moving was take away’s. As the family set down to eat the smell of Chinese filled the house. After trying to make conversation with everyone she went up to her room feel asleep from exhaustion. When she woke up Emma was beyond unhappy it was her first day of school. © 2010 Suicidal TeddybearAuthor's Note
