Lunar Lullaby: A Half SestinaA Poem by Kaylee April
The moon felt safe inside her shell She tried to drench the burning As droplets formed like drops of dew fell softly on her lips She wept for things unchangeable, blanket of night wrapped
around her shoulders How lonely keeping watch while everyone’s asleep Her gasps are gusts and teardrops now are whirring past her
feet From down below she’ll never know the burning Still has ceased, across her children’s faces to their
charred and splitting lips Some earthlings still awake, lonely as she, watch little
streams around their feet Or listen quietly from the windows of their resting places,
families fast asleep While the ocean sound sucks itself inside its abandoned
shells The sea beats on the shores sore sunken shoulders The moon peers down with reverence and touches her pale lips Remembering the oceans kiss that every morning pulls her
down to sleep They never touch besides the tears that fall, burning From her dearest’s eyes and land on her shoulders Shoulders of the untouchable sea, boundless without shell Or cage or country side to keep her contained, or chains
upon her feet © 2015 Kaylee AprilReviews
