Phantom

Phantom

A Poem by Kaylee April

Every morning you open the curtains wide

Heat in your veins and blood in your voice

You wipe the salt from the creases in your face

You greet the shadow at your window

Dappling into human form

She speaks and you close your eyes

Voice sweet as syrup and sharp as silver

Her hands wrap around your wrists and pull you

Further and further into her grasp

Every morning you whisper

“no more”

She promises

“just watch”
