Chapter 1A Chapter by kaylahardy120Noelle's first day of dealing with her demons...or rather, demon. When I opened my eyes, I was face down on my laptop's keyboard with my music blasting in my ears. I lifted my head up, ripped out my headphones and looked at the time to find it was exactly the same time it was when I'd been whisked off to the FCG. I looked around and saw the people around me continuing on with their normal routines as I wiped the tiny sweat beads from my forehead. I quickly opened my email and found that the email from earlier was gone and I heaved a sigh of relief. It was a dream after all! I closed my laptop, gathered all my belongings into my backpack and headed off to my class. As I was walking, I slipped on an ice patch and instead of trying to catch my balance, I felt the wind get knocked out of me and I fell flat on my a*s. I sat on the icy cement in disbelief for a moment until I heard snickering. I lifted myself up and spun around. My jaw and stomach dropped in disbelief as I saw Louis leaning against a trash can smirking at me. I shook my head, rubbing my eyes; I'd fallen too hard and was in shock. "Your parent's were smart to keep me away from you as a child. You'd be so fucked up if I'd been around," he spoke, his voice low and seemed to rumble as he talked. "Leave me alone," I spat, shoving my finger into his chest and he looked down at me unimpressed. "Fine," he hissed as I began speed walking to my building. When I got inside I felt sick; an overwhelming sense of dread washed over me and I sprinted into the nearest bathroom. I threw myself into a stall and began violently vomiting. My skin was clammy and I was sweating profusely regardless of how cold I felt inside. "Hey, are you okay?" a voice boomed from outside the stall and I mustered the strength to lift myself off the bathroom floor wipe my mouth off. "Yeah, just food poisoning," I croaked, slumping onto the toilet and letting out a deep breath. I lifted my wrist to look at the time and saw I only had five minutes until my class started. I had to pull myself together; get hydrated and suck it up. I opened the stall door and stumbled to the sink staring at myself in the mirror. Everything was moving around me and it made me feel sick. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I splashed some water on my face and wobbled out of the bathroom and down the hall. I opened the door to my classroom and quickly took a seat near the door. "Ms. Jones, you don't look well," my professor spoke, coming in front of my desk and looking at me in concern. I shook my head, smiling weakly at him. I hadn't missed a single one of my college classes, and I wasn't going to start today...especially today with all the weird s**t that was happening. "I'm fine," I whispered, mainly reassuring myself. He didn't look convinced, but he went up to his desk without another word about it. I tried to focus on what he was saying, but my head was pounding and my vision came and went as the class progressed. All I could hear were the FCG's words ringing through my head, the words on my birth certificate, and Louis's fiery eyes staring me down. "Noelle?" my professor's voice rang and I looked up at him. I glanced around the classroom to find it empty. I swallowed hard and pulled my coat on and threw my backpack onto my back. "You should go home and get some rest," he spoke softly and I nodded, walking to the door, but my legs felt like jello as I walked down what seemed to be a never-ending hallway. When I reached the door, I fell against it and felt some relief from the cold wind against my burning skin. I saw Louis watching me from a distance and he just smirked and shrugged. I walked towards him; snow and wind swirling around me while Louis just watched in amusement. When I got in front of him, the storm stopped and I felt relief run through my body. "You sure you want me to leave you alone?" he asked, rolling up his sleeve and showing me a black band wrapped around his wrist. There was a light on it that changed from red to green. I frowned at it and he grabbed my hand and rolled up my sleeve to reveal a similar band. It flicked from red to green as well and I looked at him. "I may be a demon, but you need me or things are gonna get way worse than 'food poisoning'" he growled, dropping my wrist hastily. "I don't need your help," I snapped, pushing my sleeve down and he rolled his eyes. "I don't really want to help you, seeing as you're quite a brat, but we're stuck together so there's nothing we can do. So you can either get used to it or you're in for a hell of a suffering," he grinned devilishly. "You're a goddamn demon, you aren't going to be doing much good for me anyway," I growled, walking to my car. "You got that right," he confirmed sarcastically as I began slipping on another patch of ice, but before I did I watched it melt in the blink of an eye. I looked at Louis and he looked smug. I rolled my eyes and continued to walk to my car. "Why were you even on the Guardians list to begin with?" I asked as we reached my car and his jaw clenched for a moment and he shrugged. I narrowed my eyes at him, but he got into the car and slammed the door while I scraped the ice off of my car. "Some heat powers would be nice," I yelled, knocking on his window, but he just looked at me lazily. I wanted to scream, but I held it in and continued scraping. "An honest mistake my a*s," I mumbled, not believing I had a f*****g demon as my companion. I got in my car to find it roasting. I shed my coat, but I was still sweltering. Louis had the passenger's seat reclined and his eyes were closed. "Thanks for the help," I grumbled, starting my car and speeding out of the parking lot. "As much as I adore road rage, I'd rather not have to go back to Hell today," Louis mumbled as I swerved in out of lanes, honking my horn and cursing at all the idiot drivers surrounding me. I ignored his snarky comment and continued my routine drive. I turned up my music and Louis snickered. "What?" I snapped and he just shook his head. "I didn't know anybody else besides liked this kind of music," he scoffed and I turned it up to drown him out. Wait, did he say he liked this music too? I shook my head and just immersed myself into the music. I swung my car into the driveway of my crappy, rundown apartment and stopped the car. I got out of the car and sulked to the door. I went in without waiting for Louis, knowing he'd let himself in either way. I dropped my bag on the floor and walked over to the fridge, opening it to find once again, no food. I sighed and poured myself a glass of luke-warm water. Louis walked in and he let out a low whistle. "This is almost worse than Hell." © 2017 kaylahardy120Author's Note
