Smiles All Around

"So, you mean to tell me Danny Wood from New Kids On The Block asked you out?" My best friend asked me calmly.

We were in her bedroom and had just finished an early preview of the Step By Step album that the guys had given me

"Well.." I trailed off trying to explain myself.

"And your just telling me now?!" Aimee said before she squealed in excitement.

That's Aimee for you, we met in 8th grade and have been inseparable ever since. We are the best of friends and we both happen to share an obsession with the New Kids. She swears up and down she's going to be the future Mrs. McIntyre. Hopefully after the concert in a couple of weeks she will be.

That is, if she could actually find words to say to him.

"Wow Cherie, You're so lucky! I can't believe you got to meet them. Is Joe as nice as he seems?" She leaned in with curiosity.

"Even nicer, he was joking around and laughing the whole time. All of them were actually" I smiled reminiscing on that day.

Aimee returned my smile and walked over to her bedroom door that had a poster of the guys. She examined it with a dreamy look and sighed.

"I wanna go see them this summer but I heard half of the shows are already sold out." She pouted.

I walked over to her with a big smile on my face and put my hand on her shoulder. I totally forgot to mention the second part to her, saving the best for last.

"You know, the album wasn't the only gift they gave me." I told her with a small smile on my face.

"Did they give you a shirt too?"

"No... They invited me and a guest to their first concert!"

Aimee pulled a complete 360 and grabbed my hands as we jumped up and down in excitement and squealed. I swear we've done this too many times today. Once we were on a new kids high it took us awhile to get back down.

"I knew this job would be good for us! I can't believe I get to see my husband in person, Wait! Do I get to meet him too?"

I nodded my head as another squeal came over both of us.

"When's the concert?" She questioned as she laid back on her bed.

"June 23rd" I sighed looking at her calendar.

For some odd reason I felt like these were going to be the longest two and a half weeks of both of our lives.

Later that night I'd gotten back home and decided to get ready for bed early since I had to wake up early for the taping of Club MTV. Just as I finished brushing my teeth my older sister Lena rushed into my room with excitement on her face.

"Charice, pick up the phone. It's Danny Wood!"

I was a little surprised to be honest. Danny had not called since the day I saw him. Which was only two days ago so I wasn't worried, plus I'd been so busy with work I was getting in really late for the past couple of nights.

"Ok, now go" I shooed her away as I sat on my bed and reached for the phone on my nightstand.

"Hello" I couldn't help but speak in a shy voice.

"Hey, Charice?" I instantly swooned at this familiar voice.

"Yeah, it's me"

"What's up?" He asked quietly

"Nothing, just finished brushing my teeth. What about you?"

"I just got home from the studio."

"Woah, you guys are working on new music already?"

"Not yet but I got a group I'm tryin to put out."

"Oh, how's that going?" I didn't think they worked on anyone's music but their own.

"It's going ok, just goin around to different labels."

"That's good" I replied as we both fell silent.
