Didaskaleinophobia

A Story by Kay/Hayden
"

Fear of school. Find the truth about the modern-day school from a current student

"
No child shall be afraid of school. School is supposed to be a safe place for adscolents. Some children rely on school to make up a gap their family leaves.  Governemnt acts as if school is a sanctuary for adscolents. They provide 'Free lunch" for needy adscolents. It might as well cost a million dollars if it costs a child's spirits. Imagine having 30 kids behind you in the check out line and you have to say "I'm in the free lunch program" to the cashier every day.  That is a mortifiying routine to go through daily.
Additionaly, the food the child is getting does not support dietary needs. Now you are thinking, "But it's a law they serve you healthy food"  Yes, it is. Pizza in schools is considered "healthy". The tomato sauce are a 'vegetable', the chocolate milk is 'nutritional dairy', the pizza crust is 'grains', and the pepporoni drenched in fattening grease is a 'meat'. Very nutricious!

Well, if all this is bad the teachers have to be somewhat good, right? Wrong!  As a student speaking themselves, my teachers one year led me to self-esteem issues and much much worse things! Now of course, some teacheres are amazing, others are terrible. This specific teacher told me I was a failure. It was very demoralizing. He barley taught us anything and expected to do good on state tests. Another teacher yelled at me for getting a kleenex and looking at my penicil? Now mind you, this teacer had a tenchonoly degree, NOT a education degree. He was my "social studies' teacher.

Many students are exposed to extremely demoralising situations. I myself have seen around 10 kids arrested and many many fights.  Furthermore, many schools ignore hate comments whne they are reported. Kids are also exposed to sexual assualts.
How is this safe for your kids? How can you protect your kid's spirits from these scary moments?

First and fore most, get a (OUTSIDE) school counselor for your child. If you can't afford this, use the inside school ones.

Second, don't tell your kid they are exagerating fi they tell you something bad that happened at school. Chances are, it actually happened. Things have accelerated for the worst at schools since most adults have been in school.

Finally, if you feel like the amount of homework given to your child is excessive, talk to their teacher. They listen to parents, not children.
In conclusion, Schools have became way worse lately but there are ways to help! Remember, school isn't "easy" like many adults say!

I think your expose is balanced, showing the good, the bad, & the ugly, plus a suggestion of how the average person can do something realistic & feasible, not making pie-in-the-sky suggestions a reader would probably never do. Frankly, I feel there's too much strife to imagine for kids these days, with covid issues & gun violence, not to mention bullying & teachers who aren't addressing kids needs becuz they are overloaded too. I agree that today's adults are not in touch with how hard it must be for kids. I encourage you to continue writing in ways that help people understand & do what can be done to help (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I wish you a great Thanksgiving as well!!
A great social comment packed into a small space. I agree that there are many problems that NEVER seem to be rectified regardless of how many times they are brought up and discussed. I do believe that parent involvement is a good starting point. Loved your point of view and keep on writing!!
