Spring (ACT 1 - Scene 3)A Screenplay by Alya Usman
SCENE 3
There is a huge brown gate with a weird symbol imprinted on it. Excel and Schere enter, along Mark clutching Excel’s hand. MARK: (Pouting his lips) Oh come on, Excel! Don’t go! You know how much you mean to me. You’re like a brother to me! EXCEL: (Leans over to the size of Mark) You have a good brother even without me. (Softly) I’m sorry Marky but I have to go. SCHERE: (Frowning. He closes his eyes and crosses his arms) Mark, stop forcing him. It’s for his own good. All you care is about yourself. EXCEL: (Glares at Schere) Stop teasing your brother. He’s just being considerate… (Eying Schere) Unlike some people I know. SCHERE: (Sighs and rolls his eyes) Whatever… Just go already before Eclipse strikes again. EXCEL: (Nodding) Oh and the next time we meet I’ll surely kick your a*s in Bakudo. SCHERE: (Smiling) We’ll see about that. Schere and Excel shake hands. Excel spins around to face the gate. MARK: (His voice dying) Excel… EXCEL: (To Mark) I’ll come back. I promise you that Marky. MARK: When? EXCEL: Well after Eclipse stops chasing me… (Chuckles and pats Mark’s head) It’s a Promise. Excel straightens his shoulders, clinging his bag over them. Well then, Goodbye! I’m off! He exits through the gate that leads him backstage. MARK: (Waves nonchalantly) Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. SCHERE: (Frowns at Mark) Mark. MARK: (Turning his head towards Schere) Yes? SCHERE: Stop it. He’s gone. Gone to Earth and he isn’t coming back. MARK: How can you say that, brother? SCHERE: Because I know my rival more than anyone on this land. MARK: (After a pause) You know, brother… you can always lie a little to make your brother happy. SCHERE: (Drawing a long breath) Stop whining. I’m going home. MARK: Then go! Schere turns away and moves to the other side of the stage). Real brothers don’t act like that! Schere exits. (Voice filled with tears) Fine! I … I don’t care! Stupid brother…
Curtains fall.
