Chapter 1- Running Away

Chapter 1- Running Away

A Chapter by ApocalypticChick

"Karina!  Wake up!  There's a strange boy waiting for you!" My foster mother shouted from outside my bedroom door.
"Alright! I screamed as loud as I could.
I woke up from a terrible dream I had.  It wasn't unusual for me to have bad dreams.  In fact it was quite frequent.  I couldn't seem to escape from them.  I figured I wouldn't dwell on it, as my mother used to say.  At the thought of her a started crying, it was a steady stream of tears rolling down my face.  I couldn't believe I was crying again, over something that was long gone.  My foster family was extremely kind to me, but I think that was only because they were happy to have a child of their own even though they knew what happened in my past.  I missed my mom and dad, but I knew that I would never see them again...  They abandoned me when I was ten.  They split up when I was six, and then my dad got remarried, and my mom was put into a state of despair that wouldn't leave her.  I didn't understand why she was crying, but now it affects my life.  My foster mom and dad were friends of my mom and dad, so they told me about them.  They sounded like good people.  I only have very few memories of them.  I missed them, but I knew that they were in a better place.  I climbed out of bed, and threw my clothes on, and I was downstairs within minutes.  My breakfast was already set out on the table for me.  I ignored the food, and grabbed a muffin, and opened the door, because I was curious to see who the boy was.  Much to my surprise it was a boy in my class.
"Hey uh sorry to show up so sudden..." He said sounding rushed and nervous.  I wondered why he would be nervous, because I had always known him as the cool, calm, and collected kind of guy.  Maybe I only thought this because he never actually talked to me before.  People like him called me a loser, gay, a geek, and a nerd.  I always called them jerks back.  Then I realized that he was still standing at my door.
"Um can we go outside for a minute?" I asked him softly.
"Sure." He replied.
"Okay so not to sound rude or anything, but why are you here?
"I had to tell you that um someone's body was found in a lake, and I figured since you like that kinds of stuff that I would tell you."
"How do you know I like that kinds of stuff?"
"Well um I've known you for awhile now so I figured that I would tell you..."
"Okay then.  Where about was this body found?'
"Follow me"
"Hold on..."
I ran back inside to tell my mom where I was going.
"Mom? I'm going to the lake with Gregg. Okay? I'll be back for lunch"
"Okay sweetie" She replied.
"I'm back" I said to him.
"Okay follow me.
As I ran behind him I realized that something changed about him.  I couldn't quite figure it out, but there was something different.  I couldn't help, but to smile when he looked at me.  I knew this wouldn't last so I tried not to think about it.  I knew I would eventually just be depressed if I let myself think these things.  I ran ahead of him so if he looked back he wouldn't see me crying.

I like it, the personality of the narrator is interesting. You may want to give a little more detail so it doesn't feel so rushed. But it's great so far.
