My Groaning World

My Groaning World

A Poem by Kat

My Groaning World

The world beyond me groans in pain

Beneath the turrets of my ivory tower

The tidal pressure of human gain

Grows faster, faster, with every hour

Of earth beneath the stamping feet

Washed and leached with every shower

The air takes in the fetid heat

Creating clouds within our power

I watch the earth begin to die

The goodness in my heart turn sour

Can only turn a blinded eye

From nature which has ceased to flower

Below the masses congregate

I watch the creatures cringe and cower

And fear solutions come to late

To save this planetary bower
