Prologue

My name is Reina Hewitt. And I was 17 when I was killed.

 

I wasn’t murdered. I wasn’t sick. I was healthy and had a pretty face. My death was a freak accident. It definitely was not supposed to happen. I had my whole life ahead of me.

 

I was a junior in high school. I’d just gotten my driver’s license and I was saving up for a new car. I almost had enough to buy the one I had been wanting for six months. A cute green Volkswagon from 1973. It was beautiful and I loved it so much. I had good grades in school. I took a few AP and honors courses and I was working hard on my sciences. I wanted to go to medical school.

 

I had amazing friends. Victoria was my best friend. We talked about everything. Boys, drama, shopping…anything. It was a great friendship. I had other friends too of course. Caity, Lindsay, Lizzy, Katherine, Mina, Austin, Joey, Liam. They were the people I loved being with the most.

 

I think the most important thing to know about me, is that I was in love. Deeply in love. My boyfriend was named Jake. He was my whole world. He made me feel like no one else could. He always brought out the best in me. He loved me like no one else had.

 

I knew the impact my death would have on him.
