cinderella

cinderella

A Poem by Katie Paterow

something out of a fairytale,

the story of me and you.

a plethora of lights; blinding,

yet all I see is blue.

hue: identical,

how we ignite: chemical.

intense and disarming,

my mirror staring back.

but"buzz!

tick tock,” says the villain,

says the thief"

who whisked away two lovers

with cobwebbed truths locked in chests.

eyes a glass, heart’s a glass;

racing away in terror and agony,

piece by piece shatters around.

the way home can never be found.

because when the clock strikes twelve

and the magic breaks,

fantasy melts away.

we’re left to yearn

and pray for shields

from the tragedy of the unspoken.

A very passionate piece that speaks to love. I'm drawn to love's illusions because in reality it's actually more painful and poisonous to endure. You describe both aspects eloquently and truthfully in these words. Thank you for sharing your art with us.
