Subconscious

Subconscious

A Poem by Katie

The wood-floor screamed under her feet

Her mind held all the secrets she swore to keep

All the dirt sat under the carpet silent

The girl’s soul was so defiant

She counted her steps day by day

Hoping one day he just might stay

To the right there was an empty room and she opened the door

She poured the paint onto the floor

With every broken soul she lunged into the paint

She was the beauty behind those broken saints

She turned her music on to roaring sounds

Spinning in circles while the paint splashed the blank white walls round after round

She slapped against the ground

She sank into the floor and absorbed all the minds

She was the secret they all stood behind

She walked down the road every day so plain

She walked everyday yet nobody knew her name

Yet she liked it that way

Because she had that power she didn’t have to stay

The necklace was broken when it was bought

But it wasn’t a necklace it was a lesson waiting to be taught

It was a symbol of all the souls that rot

It was the sheltered people when they found out shocked

It was her heart with a cemented lock

It was the grenade in her soul going tick tock

The children they never knew

They were just ingredients part of a bigger recipe for strew

They believed what they heard was true

They put too much trust into the church’s pew

I was there too

I held on to my balloon tight

It carried me out into the night

I was there to make their hearts light

I watched while their minds closed in

They were told to do good by fallowing a syllabus of sin

They smiled when they saw pictures of war

Its human instinct to keep an uneven score

Because now we are told that no one can hurt us anymore

My hands griped the swing tight

I was ready to take flight

I saw the girl before I took off

She walked heavy holding a heart of rocks

She gave me a look I’d never seen before

It was like warning me not to open the door

I ran across the fields so fast

I ran and never felt the need to look past

I was that girl who exchanged that look

Born with a broken mind confirmation was all it took

I took that gun and held it up high

I shot it once for every time they lied

It was a feeling that brought back the stars

A feeling that tore open old scars

The wind took my side

Helping me start my future ride

Helping me let go of what I held inside

I never saw that girl again

I hope she finally got a chance to make her mends

I hope she grew into the girl she wanted to be

I know she did because that girl was me
