Immigration

A Poem by Katie

Immigration

They want us to think that we have opportunities.

That’s why they call it America the land of the free.

But what happens when you don't speak English?

That's when all of your rights, they get taken.

Imagine you are lying in your bed at night.

Your children tucked in and you're sleeping next to your wife.

Then suddenly when you're sleeping.

The police brake down your door and ask you for your name, and you grab a picture of your girls just for safekeeping.

You know deep down you might never see their faces again.

But in you're heart you can't believe that this is happening.

And the last thing your want your daughters to think is that you abandoned them.

They cuff you and your wife up.

You tell your daughters not to watch.

This s**t happens every day.

Because if you aren’t legal you get sent away.

America the heartless that’s what it really should be.

These children are left alone in this unjust country.

And trust me they will always remember that.

Cause America the one that took away their dad.

Even if he and his wife were legal.

America would assign them to work for the higher up people.

I bet you think it's just none of your business.

You can just look away because it doesn’t affect you right?

Why should you take your good time to help out the fight?

And that's the problem within this system.

If the issues don't affect you then you can just dismiss them.

While you’re going to school everyday.

These children have nowhere to stay.

Their parents got sent back down.

And they got no other family around.

They get put into a foster home

Where the foster parents are really in it for the loan

They don't even know were their parents are.

America the land that leaves scars.

Just remember that Latinos have a lot of issues to face

But I’m not saying it’s worse then any other race

It’s culture awareness that you lack

But I can’t blame you, I guess America failed to teach you that

But sometimes the real issues don’t get addressed

And if they get adopted people would tell them that they’re blessed.

Do these parents know?

There is a father out there looking for his daughters home

And they can’t forget the day

That America took their parents away

It’s a serious issue that needs to get fixed

But sadly it’s the last thing on America’s to do list.
