shes a pretty girl of about average height. she doesn't stand above the crowd but blends with it easily. you can find her standing in the corner of parties that people invite her to, parties she doesn't so much attend but instead maybe observes. i watch her long slender fingers that tug at split ends curling them mindlessly. i see her every now and again sipping from a plastic cup her blue eyes unwinding me and knotting me up again. im nothing exactly special and i never catch her gaze but i catch my breath when her eyes unseeing graze over me. i watch boys approach her every once in a while she is polite and quiet while she listens as they talk to her but only entertain themselves. there is a slight nod of her head and sometimes a subtle" mmmm" escapes her lips pressed together as she feints interest. i don't blame them for their attempts because although they are not successful they show more bravery then i do. im standing as close to her as possible without entering her universe. there is about five feet between her shoes and mine but it would take a hundred years for me to reach her from where i stand. though we are worlds apart i can still steal glances without strain, the contrary actually i could see her with eyes closed if the need presented itself, confessedly it often does around 3 in the morning when i cant sleep, and even when i can.
Cellardork this is fun to read. As one of those quiet girls in the corner let me say you are noticed any way. Problem is, there's four or five just like you everywhere ...the University Supervisor, the piano teacher's son, the guys that had lockers by mine, the grocery check out clerk... asking on the spot to marry. Truly, it becomes tedious. She may be shy, cerebral, intelligent, or tired and even alarmed of the glances she recieves. There may be mistrust and/or pain in her past. She would probably enjoy attention from one quietly watching too, someone who can match her complex intensity. Great job. Enjoyed reading the rare glimpse of male thought.
