Above Ukraine

Once upon a Time Above Ukraine's great domes of vibrant colored Cathedrals Mourning doves rose, swirling silhouette against fresh blue and creamy clouds. Cities of People’s voices praised to the heavens along with life, joy and hard work.

Her voices now tremble and groan for death has left its imprint. Its earth holds the murdered, the departed, her people now without breath, so still.

Mourning doves have flown away taking their sweet calls with them.

Families’ broken with tear streaked cheeks of children. Mamas and papas, divided. A country shattered as multitudes flee sure destruction. We wish for the war to end. They wonder why their neighbor has raised its hand in violence.

What of us here; do we deny our own devastation? This United States of America embroiled in violence and division, a broken foundation crumbling from within, treasure dwindling.  Within-without; cries, groaning and supplications rise to the heavens for us, for them. “Our world Oh Lord is broken, Jesus save us! Jesus help us!”

We imagine lives snuffed out under heavy boot. We see news programs of the fleeing masses on the other side of the world and hope for this earth’s arms to take them in. How many cry out. “God do you see me? Do you care?”

In a twinkle, in a moment of passing breath multitudes pass into Salvation's eternity reality; the name of Jesus on their lips. Bombs and explosions and cruelty for the souls now departed in mass graves. Death has been defeated by the victory of Jesus resurrection power.

Oh I wish we could see lifted above the vibrant colored Cathedrals of Ukraine as the Glorious Angels of God Almighty join in with the praise of the redeemed.

I asked the same questions. Poor Ukraine, fighting a war that will last for years. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing and powerful poetry.

A very poignant and timely offering here. The first stanza, dealing with Ukraine's past, stands in grim contrast to the rest of the poem, which is a portrait of the horrors of war. It is staggering to realize all this misery is the result of one man's warped ambitions, but that is the way of autocracies.

Can god see their pain and endless cries? The destruction caused, innocent people dying? Kiev used to be a vibrant beautiful city now another warzone. Why must beuatiful things be destroyed? Its a question i have and i dont have an answer for it.
