Sun PrizmsA Poem by Kathy Van KurinMorning after returning home from vacation.Sun Prizms Lord thank you for this morning. Window Sun prisms flow through fir trees to my floor. Outside beauty
pulls at me and is brought to the inner room of this heart. Light barely
awake it has begun this day. I rise from my chair. Awake a bit early,
walking slowly down hallway to kitchen. Beauty unexpected jolts me to attention. It is a stretching sharp lance of golden sun now calling
my name. Bright shining upon
wood plank floor but no cutting of skin Toes are safe as
I amble through early golden edged pattern of loveliness. My eyes drawn to
its light, mid stride a single foot fall held in place then pause. This my morning’s
saunter with a nice hot mug of creamy sweet coffee in hand. Its comfort seems
to echo the welcoming of the bright sun diamond. Arrival, yes back
to my desk with window venetian blinds pulled up. These eyes look out
to new day. The sun is now
creeping along languidly, fully across my tall garden fence. In the forefront, leading the way; tall yellow dahlias herald in communion. The creamy peach and bright red of its fellows all in a row join in Now the same hall wall at my back is like a projector screen. Through study door it receives lengthening shimmer. It contrasts a weaving, a climbing of flower’s vine in silken silhouette. There is nothing
for it but to stare, to admire. Now is the time to consider, in this journey of morning imagination, pondering. I am home. Kathy Van Kurin,
