Not seen but still real

Not seen but still real

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

The extravagance of moments gone running into a stream of gold- those continuing into future realities.

"

Not seen but still real

Light casts a shadow and is caught.

Shade ponders our impermanence.

We may feel inadequate as a shadow.

Light and dark push against one another.

Contrasts need tension to be real.

We are shades within this life palette.

Wake up call, be aware, appreciate

Any opportunity to leave our mark,

Any shadow in this world.

Are we light or are we a shadow?

Sometimes just being a shadow,

A witness to another’s light is enough.

In this cycle of repeated opportunities

We walk and struggle through rooms,

Through seasons of light and shadow.

For now, till then.

Oh, the tremendous blessing of struggle.

We are alive to cry, to exalt in these times

Of light and dark, of life.

Let us ponder this year not yet known.

We have lived, we live still.

How do we feel about the future- for we cannot control all things in life. What, how, who do we depend?

Your thoughts and words are so sincere, full of a need to go on through life with a comfortable, contented attitude: ' Are we light or are we a shadow? - Sometimes just being a shadow, - A witness to another’s light is enough. ' Those are such calm, considered words but, in response to what you've added along with your title:

In all honesty I don't think we can control 'all ' things in life. For me Life is both the biggest inspiration and - the biggest challenge. What good we find rambling our path we surely need to protect. As to the dark and daring, surely it needs to be set right, perhaps be manoevred with awareness of 'fall out', thus approached and hopefully remedied with great care and diplomacy.

We all know there's a right and wrong way of dealing with things, and so, yes, yes and yes to your written thoughts: ' In this cycle of repeated opportunities - We walk and struggle through rooms, -
Through seasons of light and shadow. - For now, till then. - Oh, the tremendous blessing of struggle.'

Seems we share the same ideas, we struggle to find what's right (and yes, to each his/her own) but with care and thought. To do that, we accept the tried and tested to find what is right even if not a quick response - surely that's too easy. It's adjusted wisdom via experience that seems be your deepest belief, Kathy. This is such fine writing and a thought-provoking post. Have read it three times and will definitely come back again. Thank you!

The ending was very powerful. You're right. We're still alive and there is still so much to do and see. Really enjoyed reading this!

This is one of the best pieces I have seen by this poet. It is a very philosophical/ spiritual offering dealing with the alternating polarities of life and how they affect us. I especially liked the line "Contrasts need tension to be real." Indeed they do, and we supply that tension by our resistance to people, situations and things. Liked the way the poem was upbeat without being too sentimental. We need works like this to see us through these perilous times. Well done.
